Are Flybar Pogo Sticks The Perfect Toy For Older Kids?

!±8± Are Flybar Pogo Sticks The Perfect Toy For Older Kids?

There are many toys on the market these days for your children to play with and the difficulty is choosing which toy to get them. In an ideal world you will want to get the something that is good fun and something that they will play with for some time to come.

With the rise of the games console, we've all seen an increase in weight for many children. For some it has been slight whereas for others it has been much higher and introduced a risk of childhood diabetes and heart problems.

The challenge many parents face is finding a way to get their children exercising and having fun at the same time. One of the best ways to deal with these issues is with a flybar pogo stick.

Flybar pogo sticks are a great version of the classic toy which many of us may have owned whilst we were younger. Pogo jumping is great fun and a good form of exercise that will help your children lose weight, get fitter and get out of the house.

Flybar pogo sticks feature a rugged metal frame covered in foam with easily replaceable non slip foot pads. The handles are easy to grip and the rubber tip is long lasting. Of course, with a lot of use you can expect the rubber tip to wear out but one of the nice things about the flybar sticks is that you can easily replace the tips.

When you buy your child a pogo stick you need to invest in some safety gear for them too. Typically they will need a helmet and some elbow and knee pads to be 100% safe. As parts of the pogo stick can wear out you do need to teach your child to visually inspect their stick just to make sure it is ok. Particularly, get them to check the rubber tip as if this has worn out their stick could become dangerous.

Whilst there are many different types of pogo stick on the market you can spend anything from a few tens of dollars to several hundred for the professional sticks. Obviously for a first timer you don't want to spend too much. The Flybar pogo stick gives a good balance between price and features. It's a good stick to go for because it isn't going to cost you a small fortune and you can replace parts when it wears out, meaning it will last a good amount of time.

Of course, once your child gets bitten by the pogo bug and really gets in to it then you can look at buying a more expensive pogo stick or even a pair of pogo stilts. You never know, when you see how much fun they are having you might be tempted to have a go yourself!

Cleaning the Smith 642

Doing a little cleaning on my smith and wesson 642. I clean this gun about every 200 or 300 rounds, while i normally wipe the soot out of it after ever firing. Not quite as easy to clean as an automatic, but not too bad.

First Time Handgun For A Woman

!±8± First Time Handgun For A Woman

Many women prefer to own a gun. What advice people have for a first time handgun for a woman, who is not a big fan of revolvers, so something in the semi-automatic category?

Be aware that some of the wannabe swat-types and other video game playing types will tell you to buy some artillery piece. Disregard them and do a little homework. The .22LR cal. is the way to go for a first gun. When and if woman gets comfortable with it and can hit the target, then she could move up to a bigger caliber.

Try searching for Smith & Wesson (or get a catalog at a local gun shop). Go to a local shooting range and rent or borrow a couple of different ones to get used to. The one near me let's you borrow their pistol if you buy a bag of their ammo. Start with .22 cal, and then if the woman can handle it OK, try the .38 Spcl. Ask one of the range guys to instruct you.

Try the revolver; it is still the most goof-proof weapon. No decocking lever, safeties, no lost-the-magazine (when you need it the most), no "rack the slide" at 0300 when her palms are sweaty, and it doesn't need to be kept as clean as a "self loader".

Avoid off-brand and chippo priced guns. Remember the saying: You get what you pay for. The suggestion is to stick with S&W, Colt or Ruger. If you really need a handgun, you want one that goes bang when you pull the trigger. I think the Lady Smiths are the same as the other "J" frames, with a bit of extra engraving and for a bit more money, of course. Rossi makes good firearms too, which will cost less the S&Ws, Rugers, Colts, etc.

Ruger Standard .22 auto is easy to learn on, next to no recoil, great accuracy, used from plinking to small game hunting, can be used in a pinch for defense...which beats a phone call not made to 911.

If she is gun savvy at all, then a 1911A1. Recoil is not excessive (my daughter regularly shoots mine, as do the many thousands of female IPSC competitors). Obviously, quite good for defense targets, small game hunting, plinking, and competition. However, unless her hands are on the large side, a 1911A1 style handgun may be a bit big.

Smith and Wesson .22 auto mag for the same reasons S&B noted but with more "knock down" power for self defense. Load it with hollow points and it is the best home defense weapon for more petite people. The ammo is very cheap so it allows for a lot of range time.

Look at the Taurus Model 85s. It is a very good pistol at about half the price of an S&W.

You will be able to put your eyes and hands on a lot of different makes, models, calibers, and sizes. You'll be able to eliminate some of them from consideration pretty quick.

Smith & Wesson .38 Special +P Model 438

Review and shooting test with a very popular revolver for concealment, S&W Model 438 J-frame "Bodyguard". Video includes close-ups and brief overview of the firearm, demonstration of double-single action trigger, and target shooting session, mostly at 40 feet. There are a couple of long-range shots as well. This firearm was purchased "slightly used". My primary purpose for this firearm is ammo testing and miscellaneous videos, as my EDC is a semi-auto. This could serve as a backup, or a primary carry for a family member. CAMERA: Sony HDR-CX110 recorded at FX setting, 24 mbps. The SML will also work with many popular aftermarket rubber grips such as Hogue or Pachmayr brands. The compact base unit contains all components necessary for operation - laser, switch, battery and circuitry. The unit body is constructed from 380A die cast aluminum and the plates are made of 4130 hardened chromoly steel. The SML is powered by four 377 batteries that provide five hours of normal usage in constant on mode and ten hours in pulse mode. Normal usage is defined as one minute on and one minute off. Can Children Lift Weights?

!±8± Can Children Lift Weights?

Getting kids in shape is a totally different ball game than allowing them to overstep their fitness boundaries too soon. With parents becoming even more competitive with their kids and with which sports they are involved in it is no surprise to hear that many parents are permitting their children to lift weights when they are simply too young.

Weight lifting may sound barbaric to some mothers and even fathers of young children, but believe it or not there are quite a few parents that permit their children to engage in lifting. Some parents feel it will increase their performance in any sports they are active in and it will also add to their size which is a benefit for those in contact sports such as basketball and football. The bigger the child is the less they will be injured in a face off situation and they can play more defensive positions as well. However, it is not always safe to allow your children to begin weight lifting before their bodies are fully developed.

Weight lifting for kids should not truly begin until hey are in high school. There are some modifications you can make to get your child involved in this type of routine to add bulk and strength to their frames. For example, you can allow your child to lift gallons of water instead of weights, it may seem very elementary but that is getting back to basics and keeping it simple for the kids. A child does not need to be concerned going to a health club or lifting heavy amounts of weight as they should start off with very little weights and do more repetitions of the exercises. When the child becomes more adapt to the gallon jugs, you can remove the water and place other items inside the containers to make them gradually heavier such as oil, paper clips or even small rocks. They can use the containers to do lunges, curls, front arm raises and calf raises. For an adult this would never be enough weight to provide any real results, but for a child with a developing body this could build muscles for a fit frame for a lifetime.

Children are not to lift weights until they are in high school or at the very least fifteen yeas of age. Some experts believe they should be at least sixteen or seventeen but this will be up to the parent to decide. Think of all the other exercises your child can participate in for additional fitness road work such as push ups, sit ups, squats and running. Jump roping for any child is a fantastic calorie burner and they enjoy doing it. If your son or daughter is involved in any sports, inquire with their coaches or any additional tips or drills they could be focusing on at home and during the off season. Provide your child with a healthy diet to further increase their healthy growing bodies and encourage them to get lots of sleep.

Five Ways to a More Positive Frame of Mind

!±8± Five Ways to a More Positive Frame of Mind

1. BREAK IT UP

Whatever your goals, whether it is losing weight, writing a book, or getting fit, the key is the same: break it up. A student facing five or more years of med school might think of the task ahead as daunting; how will she ever learn all that stuff! But how many people have done just that? The answer is simple: one day, one chapter, one step at a time.

When I first joined my local gym, I was overweight and totally unfit. I had never done any exercise harder that walking, and I set myself the task to start running. My instructor told me to set the machine so that I would run for 30 seconds, no more. 30 seconds doesn't seem like a lot, but when you're as unfit as I was, it feels like half an hour. So I tried it and yes, it was hard, but I did it, and the small sense of achievement stayed with me a lot longer. Soon I was running for a minute, then five, then ten, and after a while I started measuring my training in distance, not time.

Don't set yourself too hard a task to begin with. Success breeds success, so keep it small, and before long you'll be surprising yourself.

2. THE GLASS HALF FULL

If you encounter a setback, try not to think of it in negative terms. If you can see the positive in a situation, you can learn from it.

So if you didn't get that job you wanted, don't be down, think of the things you learned at the interview that might help you succeed next time.

If you're trying to lose weight, and have a disaster of a day, don't think: "well, I might as well give in". Instead, think of all the good days you've had, and how well you've already done. Everybody has a bad day, but you know what? There's always tomorrow. You can start again.

3. DON'T BE DEPRESSED

Everybody has bad days, days when they can't be bothered, or don't have any energy. The key is to turn bad days into good days. How? Be good to yourself. If you're feeling in a bad mood, put on your favourite music, treat yourself to an ice cream, take the dog for a walk, whatever you know will improve your mood. When you're feeling happy, you can achieve so much more than if you're grumpy and sad.

4. DON'T THINK!

If you're the sort of person who can talk yourself out of anything (I'm one!) the key is not to let yourself do it. I can find any excuse not to do the things I really need to. If I find myself thinking: I won't go to the gym today, instead I'll check out my friends on the internet I stop and start trying to name every state in the USA. Any distraction, TV, radio, even counting the roses on the wallpaper will do! If you don't think about it, you can't talk yourself out of it. And once you've done it, you'll feel a lot better for it, believe me!

4. NEVER SAY "I CAN'T"

We've all done it. We watch people running a marathon, doing a bungee jump, even more everyday things like learning to drive or going for a promotion at work. We think about it and say: "no. I can't do it." Well, my view is how do you know, until you try?

At the beginning of this article I told a story from the days when I couldn't run for a bus, yet now I regularly run five or six miles. If you had asked me back then if I would ever be able to run that far, I would probably have laughed at you. But now I'm doing it, and if I can do it, so can you.

We are all capable of far more than we think we are. So the next time you see that promotion advertised, why not give it a go? Think of it this way: if you try and fail, At least you'll have tried, and you might find your boss is impressed with your ambition and recommends you for another position. If you don't try, you won't get the job, and you might always wonder: 'what if?' And you might get the job!

It's not difficult to start thinking positively. You really have nothing to lose, and a lot to gain. It could even change your life!
